The instructions for the LS1024/2024 controller don't mention it AFAIK, but the manual for the ASC brand controller does say
-" DO NOT wire the ASC in such a way that it can be connected to a load without a battery connected--eg, do not connect the loads directly to the ASC BATT terminals. This will damage the ASC if the battery is disconnected."
The load connection terminals on the LS1024 are separate from the batt ones, but it does say the loads are supplied through them by the battery.
A friend got a used MH with after-market solar. Checking things out, we disconnected shore power and also the battery wires. It was still getting 12v to run the rig! Turned out it was solar doing that. But soon things went wonky and there was a sort of surging dim and bright, looked ugly. No way to turn off the solar! Yipes. The solar battery side went to the DC panel battery lugs
So quick as can, hooked up the battery bank again. No harm done that time thank goodness. So the idea was to make a way to disconnect the solar before you yank the batteries.
