If there is no panel switch or fuse between the panel and controller, then first of all disconnect the loads from the battery. Then either the battery or the panel, doesn't matter.
Roof warranty... it's a big scam. 9 times out of 10 manufacturers don't honor it even if there was no holes, patches, eterna-tape etc. They state that the user didn't maintain it properly. It is just 1 year anyway. There is also 12 years roof material warranty on rubber-ish roofs, but this is for "material". Meaning that they will replace if material suddenly disintegrates. They will not honor the material warranty if a piece of rubber got separated along the seam and was ripped/blown away at highway speeds, because this is the "labor warranty" which is 1 year. They will not honor the material warranty when punctured by fallen tree limb either, because this is an "accident". Relax, people.
