Solar Panels: Mono vs Poly

Have been looking for Solar Panels in Ontario.

Would you recommend Mono versus Polycrystalline?

Just found some locally. They are Mono. But have seen a lot of Poly's around too.

Pros/Cons?

They'll be fixed mounted on the roof with an MPPT controller if that's important. We camp under the trees as well as out in the open; hard to say if we do one more than the other.

Guess I'll concentrate on quality brands, availability, size and price. Since I'm limited to an approx. 32" width, they may well end up mono.

That will make more difference than poly or mono.

Noticed you have the Rogue 3024. That's the one I would like to get (or its 20A baby brother).

    How are you liking it?

The panels I would like to get have a STC (Standard Test Condition?) wattage of 205 each or 410W total. But under the NOCT (Normal Operating Cell Temperature) test they only put out 296W. So I guess the Rogue MPT3024 would be a better match than their MPT2024 under optimum conditions. Also looks like it has a more informative display.

    Mono vs Poly

Thanks for that. Seems that in real-world low light situations ... it's sort of a toss-up.

  • Recommend mono because poly panels of equal wattage are larger and take up more room on your very limited available RV space.

We are currently in the process of adding solar to our bus. We are putting 2,000 watts of mono panels on our bus top. We have been working with Renogy, a company located in Chino, CA. You can go to their website to compare panels. Renogy Solar
