Solar Power Questions for a National RV
In the course of replacing the four house batteries I discovered the carrier was too corroded and rusty to trust to carry the weight. Currently awaiting a new one to be built and welded in place. I also disconnected my chassis batteries. I noticed the battery disconnect light stayed illuminated. Thinking I had missed a wire, I checked to ensure I had not. Not a connection to a battery any where.
I went in the motorhome last night after dark and no light illuminated on the panel. Thinking I have feed back from the solar panels I pulled the panel and put a voltmeter to the light connections. I have a reading of 17 to 18 volts going to this panel. I found a five amp fuse in line on the chassis distribution panel which I pulled. Still have voltage.
I have no solar power controller that I can find. Never was concerned about the solar panels until now. This is on a 01 National RV Caribbean that I bought new. Don't see many of them but it is basically a smaller version (35ft) of the Tradewinds by National. Hopefully some one can explain why the rocker switch panel has solar power to it and if there is a controller located somewhere and is 17 volts too much power feeding it. If so, where do I shut it off and will this present problems once all my batts are back in service. I might add that this is a Spartan chassis. Long post but want to tell everything I can to help. Thanks.
