Does my alternator underneath my front bonnet have a temperature sensor on the battery, despite me cycling it every day? I don't think so.
It just might - have you taken a closer look?
Of my several vehicles including the 2009 RV only my 1972 Chevy K5 Blazer does not have a battery temp sensor.
Take another look under the engine battery
This summer time 100 plus degree weather and high charging voltages can and will shorten the life of the battery - check that water level often if charging in hot weather without temp compensation
OP is talking a camper shell, not A, B or C chassis RV. Needs to be scaled, waaaaaaay back, no 16D's on this rig, just 2 GC2's. That's what, $180 in Costco or Sam's Club batteries. Batteries are so cheap, temp comp and life saved, as Mexico Wanderer has pointed out time and again, are really a non issue, for the added price of a temp sensor. Two GC-2's is in the Keep It Simple St*pid price range for the whole solar package. 200 to 240 watts of solar panel, in PWM charge controller territory, 12 to 15 amps, max. YMMV, saving 5% of the life on $180 in batteries, to me, is a non issue. My time running generators and getting the batteries up and where they need to be, so I can do better, more fun things on vacation in my retirement. Battery cost, compared to fuel expenses, every time I hitch up the trailer and go, getting 16 to 18 MPG...is completely insignificant, in the grand scheme of things. Mind the Dollars, and the pennies will take care of themselves.
