Thanks guys, some really good info here; I understand most of it but not all. I pickup my camper next week and I'm camping with friends at the race in Bristol,Tn two weeks later so I was trying to have this done prior to that. I can tell now that is not going to happen. I did not realize how much was involved in choosing a solar setup.
Also, I'm giving up on the future expansion idea as I only have room for 2 batteries. I've been using my Honda for years for microwave, coffee, etc. so I'll continue with that. The Trojan 605s have 210 AH @20 hr and 175 AH @ 5 hr. What's the difference here between the 20 and 5 hr AHs. Is that how fast you charge them?
I do know I want a roof installed system. I'm planning a 6-8 week trip out west next year so I'll be doing a lot of moving around. I may get a portable panel later to use with the same controller for shady camping here in the mountains of NC.
I'm attaching a picture of my roof. The overall length is 19' and 8' wide. I don't have measurements yet but I know I need to leave space for getting off the roof ladder. So I'm thinking two 120w or 140w panels instead of my original plan of three 100w.
Solar Blvd has two Solar Cynergy 120V for $266 and two 140V for $288. Both come with y connectors. Are these good quality at a fair price? You can also buy the panels separately for a little less. I'm assuming that's because the y connectors are not included.
I'm going with the Morningstar SureSine 300 Inverter. So I need to decide on the controller. There seems to be some difference of opinion here. For this system should I go with PWM or MPPT knowing I may want to use a portable panel with the same controller in the future?
Also, what is a good source for the roof mounts that allow you to tilt them?
Thanks again everyone for all your help. Almot, thanks for your very specific recommendations, they were very helpful.
PS, if anyone would like to read about the Adventurer 116 here is a review from TC magazine.
