[SOLVED] Lubricate Dometic element before replacement?

I'm replacing the element in a Dometic fridge. It was quite stiff pulling out the old element and I'm concerned I won't be able to slip in the new one. Is there a high temperature lubricant such as perhaps motor oil I can safely use to get that guy back in there more easily, without causing a fire?

The old one was sort of rusted (not necessary rust but "Stuck" the new one goes in much easier.
  • Don't know about others, but I appreciate it when the OP reports back with the resolution to the problem. It will help someone in the future.

  • After five months, I plugged in the element and it worked perfectly, no fires :)
  • I ended up just using a squirt of WD-40. Got it in. Won’t be using it for a while so some of it should evaporate. I’ll keep an eye on it when I turn it back on.

You would think so, but it’s now even more stuck than the old. Won’t go up or down. Pulling it I had more leverage but pushing it back in, it’s now jammed. Wish I had used a lubricant :-(

  • If the old one came out the new one will go in. Just swivel back and forth when inserting the new one. There is also a 2nd sleeve that you can use. Doug
