Stainless propane hoses

Has anyone used stainless propane hoses to connect tanks to changeover valve ? Did they get hard as a rock like rubber hoses or did they stay reasonably soft and pliable ?
thanks
  • The Stainless Steel hoses are the only ones I sell now (other than odd size left overs)- they are not any more expensive than the standard thermoplastic hoses- a couple of dollars more than the new MB Sturgis hoses, cheaper than the old Thermoplastic Marshal Gas hoses.

I kind of doubt a clear vinyl hose could carry 175 psi, and strongly advise just ignoring Rich's advice :).
  • Some would have you believe the hype, that there is something special about hose that carries propane. Years ago I ran propane thru a garden hose for 2 + yrs, no ill effects to the hose whatsoever. Since that time, I have used nothing but automotive fuel injection hose to plumb everything on the low pressure side in my RVs,.....cat heaters etc. 14 yrs later moved it all to next RV, and that hose is just as soft and pliable as new.
Truth known, "propane hose" is nothing but cheap junk !
Even the cheap clear vinyl hose from any hardware store is better for LP propane than the cheap hi $ propane junk. And don't ask me how I know that to be fact !
  • I have had one of the stainless armoured hoses for several Years! It is certainly more flexible than the straight Rubber ones used on most Barbeques !

To be honest I haven't given it much thought!

I only bought it because it was all I could get at the time I needed a hose.
  • Check with sa HYDRAULIC hose shop like THE PARKER STORE. Stainless braid over TEFLON hose.
  • Generally SS hose has a teflon type material inside and not rubber.
So there's hope that they may hold up better.

Mine are getting pretty petrified too. Anybody got a link to these new SS hoses?
  • I am very disappointed in how long the rubber hoses last... I have had to replace them a lot. If their is a better quality hose available.. I am interested. I had just heard about the stainless ones a couple of weeks ago. Not sure how long they have been on the market, but would like to hear some feedback from THOSE that have USED them.
  • Isn't a stainless hose just a rubber (or similar) hose with a protective stainless braid on the outside? It's flexibility in cold weather would depend mainly on what the inner hose part is made out of. There wouldn't be an improvement over equivalent non-armored hoses.
