Start Issues

Trouble starting 1997 Ford E350 Class C. Loose all power when trying to start engine. Able to start using emergency start switch. Both van and house batteries fully charged. Everything works once running. Any clues?

  • You said start battery was fully charged, but do you know it’s actually good?

bad start battery or poor connection. Then once started the alternator is covering for the issue.

  • Does this mean that all the warning lamps etc are on when the key is in the RUN position, then when you turn it to the crank position, everything goes out and it doesnt crank? When this happens it is typically caused by a loose connection. If it will start using the emergency start switch, you should check the main (starting) battery for loose or corroded connections.
