In the front of my rig, where the entertainment stuff goes I have both a router and External hard drive (for DISH). Both are 12VDC devices.
Connecting directly to 12VDC house battery voltage the voltage can vary from -12VDC up to & possibly past 15VDC!
If I add a DC to DC converter I can set the output voltage & it "should" stay at that set voltage if the 12VDC power fluctuates it "should" keep it at the set voltage, e.g. 12.5VDC. If I equalize the batteries (15+VDC) both the hard drive and router should ONLY see 12.5VDC.
Thus the need to a DC to DC converter.
