Do you have an aftermarket Cruise control? It looks like a control box for that. The after market cruise of that era had a magnet glued to the drive shaft and a pickup positioned less than 1/2 inch from the magnet with wires running from it into the cab somewhere. So look underneath for the magnet on the drive shaft, just behind the tranny.
