stripped nut

PLEASE! DO NOT PRY ON THE BATTERY POST!

Either around in a circle or straight up. New batteries are made differently. Think about it
How do you suppose they get an RV terminal to stick up through the lid?

The same holds true for car battery conical posts.

If you are careful, use a hacksaw to cut vertically down next to the post. This is a safe way.

Would a 1/2-Inch across flat splitting tool work on a battery terminal?

It already has 2 nuts on it but to answer your question i can get another nut on it.

Thanks for the reply.Maybe i can catch a thread by prying up on the nut.I havent tryed that yet.If that dont work i will cut the nut with a tool.

Those terminals are dirt cheap. Cut the bolt and free up your wiring and install a new terminal on the post and the wiring on the bolt for that purpose. Buy an extra to keep in your parts box. This'll probably come up again.

To make it work temporarily, screw in one or two small screws between the ring and the post. Use vice grips or something other than your hands if you attempt to cut off the bolt with a zip cut. Be careful.

Or use vice grips to grip the ring onto the post until you can get it fixed.

Edited.. I see the latest response.. as I understand it, the clamp is on the battery post, but the threaded piece that holds your rings is stripped. If you have an old fork, bend one time out and cut the other two short and sharp. Then force it under the nut between your rings. This will put pressure on the nut to come off the threaded post.

Ok, I edited my reply...please excuse my confusion. Like I said, I would still use the vice grip method and if it didn't work, cut the threaded post off and buy a new one.

I am not talking about the part that clamps around the battery post.There is a threaded screw that is made on the clamp that goes on the post.The wires go on this screw with a nut and it wont tighten or loosen.If i could get the nut off all i will have to replace is the clamp.

I'm a little confused. A battery post is connected to the battery and does not turn. So, I assume that you are either talking about a battery post cable terminal or a battery post connector that has a machine vertical post on it the you connect the battery cable to and tighten down with a wing nut or regular hex nut.

So if the battery post's cable terminal is off of the post and the bolt is one that goes through the prongs of the terminal that will tighten around the post with the bolt. If this is the case, I would put a wrench on the head of the bolt and vice grips on the nut and pull upward (or outward) while turning counter clock wise. If that doesn't work, I too would try to cut the bolt in half between the terminal's prongs.

If it is the battery post's terminal with the vertical machined post and it's the wing (hex) nut that is stripped, I would still try to use the vice grip method....or just cut the post off and buy another.
