Suburban Tankless Water heater

Hi there I'm installing one of the new Suburban Tank less water heater to replace the old Suburban 6 gallon in our 2010 Cameo. My question is about wiring, as there is no instruction on which wire goes were, other than the on/off (two white ones). I know the Red and Black are hot and ground but there is also a Orange and Blue as well.

Any experts out there with any inside knowledge would be much appreciated!
  • Suburban uses a simple wiring scheme for their 'standard' water heaters

    120V AC
Individual Circuit Breaker feds AC Power to ON/OFF switch (Black Wire)
From On/Off Switch AC Power goes to the set of T-stats (Black Wire)
From Set of T-stats AC Power goes to Element (Black Wire)

Neutral goes from element back to AC Power Panel (White Wire)

    12V DC
Fused Circuit feds DC Power to On/Off Switch then to a DC Junction Box (on side of tank)
From Junction Box DC Power goes to Set of T-stats (Red Wire)
From Set of T-stats DC Power goes to Control Module (Red Wire----circuit board could be on tank or attached to cabinet close by)
From Control Module DC Power goes to Gas Valve Solenoids (Brown Wire) and High Voltage DC goes to Spark Electrode (Thick Orange Wire)
DC Power for Fault Light comes from control Module (Blue Wire)
DC Ground from Control Module (Yellow Wire) and Green Ground Wire

  • Tankless waterheaters have pretty much been dropped by manufacturers. Are you sure that’s where you wish to head?
  • The Suburban uses the standard LP wall switch your existing Suburban uses. They also offer an UPGRADE wall tstat system that requires different wire connections. You just joined and did not ask, but as someone who has installed various RV On Demand and has had to work on them, you are making a bad choice. MOST RV'ers with On Demand from the factory, wish they had your original tank water heater. I would NOT have any type LP on demand water heater in my RV. They just do not work reliably. I usually replace On Demand with a Tank Water Heater per customer request. Doug
  • Thank you very much for your responses, I really appreciate it. As far as the reliability, I was told that RV on demand has improved greatly over the last couple of years. We do not travel with our 5th wheel, currently using as a cabin on the lake at the moment and we'll have plenty of water as it is supplied to us. Just want to be able to allow my wife long showers if she wants. :)
