Suburban water heater.

10gal Suburban water heater. Works fine on 120V. No work on propane. Light on panel does not come on. Fuse checked & OK. Switch checked & OK. Orfice dismantled, checked & clear. Now what? Igniter? Do not recall hearing a click click click from it.

Getting behind the reset cover is the only thing not done. Removed the screws but cover did not come off easy so left it. Will do again & be more aggressive this time removing cover now that I have an idea of what is behind it.

As luck has it, a guy with a Mobile Suite, same water heater as mine, has just rolled in. Also has water heater problems. 120V side. Burnt wire behind reset buttons in his. Will try to get back to mine later today.

Thanks for responses. Always good to check with the assembled multitude.

Did you check the wire nut connections inside the DC Junction Box?
Backside of WH Tank (left side looking from back----AC Junction Box on right)

  • Take some compressed air and blow out the propane burner assembly from the orifice all the way to the igniter and up into the burner tube. I'll bet you have a spider web plugging up the system. It happened to me a lot until I figured out a quick easy fix.
  • the guys in the service bay told me to wiggle the wires on all the connections. they get corroded and need to be just cleaned 90% of the time

I'm thinking my 6 gal has two resets, one elec, one gas, under the black covers, behind burner tube. The 10 gal likely same set up. Igniter should click, even though it fails to light.

If high temp t-stat has tripped....NO DC to circuit board so nothing would have power (gas valve/spark electrode)

120VAC is LEFT side (electric) Black wires
12VDC is RIGHT side (propane) Red wires
High temp t-stat...manual reset (Push to Reset on cover above gas valve

High t-stat to normal t-stat are connected via a wire...wire sometimes burns into. Remove Push to Reset Cover to check

Circuit board.could be burnt circuit...remove circuit board and check backside for scorched marks etc (backside of water heater tank..glued on)
