- mlts22Explorer IIIf you want to get fancy, a PI surge protector brick then a PI EMS permanently installed. It won't stop a direct lightning strike, but a big surge will fry the surge protector, leaving the EMS still protecting the rig. Plus, if you encounter undervoltage, it will shut power off, as too low a voltage can be very damaging to compressors.
As an added bonus, if someone steals your surge protector brick (unlikely, but it does happen), you are still protected. - Carb_CleanerExplorerJust got my PI 30 amp portable a couple days ago. About $230 with shipping.

The unit I had from TRC earlier this month didn't last 24 hours. They use a grommet at the top of their box for cable entry. Water got past it in a light rain within 3 hours. It was oriented vertically, per their instructions. You could see the moisture inside through the LED window. Camper World was nice enough to take it back for a full refund. PI uses a threaded connector with an o-ring for cable entry. I have much higher expectations from the PI assembly, but I've yet to use it.
P.S. I have a Ford pick-up and a Chevy van. I try to pick the right tool for the job. I should have researched surge protectors a litte more before my TRC purchase. - bob213Explorer

Campworld has the Progressive 30 amp for $219.00 On Line sales ONLY
Do you have a link for that? My link says $265.
Sorry found it. That's the hard wired unit. Good price :) - randallbExplorerPurchased a SG 50A portable around January 2009. We hit the road in June 2009 and after about 28 months it failed. Contacted SG and was informed that there was no support for units out of warranty. Purchased a PI unit to replace it. Why would you want to buy a product that has no support once it is out of warranty?

Thanks everyone....gonna visit Camping World and pick one up
Don't know if you need 30 or 50 amp but if you want the portable unit (EMS-PT30C) in 30 amp, I don't see it listed a CW.
OOOPS! stand corrected............

Arguing TRC vs Progressive is much like arguing Ford vs Chevy ...
That might be your opinion, but if you look at all the responses in just this thread and other similar threads you're in the definite minority here so IMO your Ford vs Chevy is not correct in this case.
And McDonalds sells a lot of burgers, too. Quantity does not equal quality. Ford vs Chevy. - TechWriterExplorer

My 2011 TRC gave me an amazing amount of trouble in year 2. Go with the Progressive Industry one.
Yeah, and my 50A Progressive never worked (even after a board swap) so I went with TRC. Ford & Chevy. - dbatesExplorerIn the eight years I've been on this forum I've only seen one negative post regarding Progressive Industries but dozens regarding TRC. Even before they advertised a lifetime guarantee they were backing their products with quick, courteous tech support and repairing or replacing their products even when it was a buyer's caused problem.

BTW PI all the way and a happy user since 2008. I like the hard wired with the remote readout.
