Surge protector?

Just bought a progressive ind. 50amp portable unit. No more betting on if I have a problem

We use aProgressive Industries Model EMS-HW50C (Hardwired) in our 50 amp FW and a have a 50 to 30 amp cord when 30 amp is only available. Last year we were staying at a lake and the weather was very hot with many people using their AC units and the voltage dropped to below 104 volts and the surge protector shut down the power. The guy staying next to us said his AC went off and still had power on and the AC unit would not start up again for the weekend. I'm sure it was done. When I went to the office the people there said they needed to upgrade there power in the park and there was nothing they could do. I ended up running the genset for the weekend for the AC and won't be going back to that park.

50a surge in your case. It will protect both lines coming in when plugged into 50a, and the one line that is plugged in when connected to 30a with a dogbone.

I have a 50 amp wired fifth wheel-sometimes campgrounds only have 30 amp available-what surge protector will work for this scenario and also work if I plug into a 50 amp pole?

Lost the power supply to my refrigerator on a motor home because of a power surge.

Finally installed one in our RV - just wanted the added protection.

based on somebody's suggestion here, I built a 50 amp to dual 30 amp outlets adapter and can choose the side that has the best current/voltage.

Personally, been doing this for with TT for 43 years. I always look for the transformer and get a site within a couple hundred feet. I always go to "reputable" campgrounds. Actually the amount of A/C time isn't all that much as we are gone from the TT most of the day, generally or just sit outside.
I know the purpose but never considered the need.

There are plenty of advocates of surge protectors - but I would argue that most people don't use one. I don't use one but I do check/test the shore power before I plug in, monitor the voltage when I run my Air Conditioner, and unplug during lighting storm. If I just purchased a brand new expensive rig I probably would fork over the money and install one.
