This is an interesting concept... set out 300 W worth of solar panel, and I am fully charged in 2 to 3 hours... pull the portapanels in, so they don't walk away, and go fishing. That could replace the charging function of a Honda Eu1000i generator.
My unanswered question would be, how much juice/amps these panels make on overcast or rainy days.
This is (almost) exactly what I do, when wintering in Mexico, only with 500W fixed poly panel. Fully charged in 2 to 3 hours if there is any sun at all. In overcast it makes about 2-2.5 times less, and is full, or sometimes "almost full" >95%, by the evening, and then it's full again before noon next day. The thing is, low overcast - not to mention rain - doesn't happen very often, so getting only to 95% once a week doesn't bother me. Currently 500W on the roof. Plenty for now, but I'm fixated on that idea of 6-7 cu.ft compressor fridge, and then flat 500W would just barely cut it.
In heavy rain it makes very-very little, I think 5 times less than it does on a cool sunny day.
Portable of same size - if you only keep it out for 2-3 hours - will not work same well, because sometimes there is a cloudy morning and sunny afternoon, or vice versa. On a sunny day your chances of getting it to Float with 300W in 2-3 hours will be pretty good, a big variable here is your energy appetite.
