first, if you have the dometic with the thermistor on the fin, did you make sure it is clipped on and in the coldest position? If not that could be part of your problem.
Second, the 120V element doesn't have the heating capability of gas. So, you can run into situations where you have symptoms like you have in hot weather. Once cooled down with gas, AC may be able to keep it cool, it just will either take much longer to get it cool, or never be able to get there, especially if it is very hot and you load the fridge up with stuff that isn't cold.
However, if the freezer is cooling, then the AC heater is working. It just may not be able to vaporize enough amonia to get the fridge section cool.
