Thetford Aqua Magic IV Blade Position Needed

Today I pulled out and took apart my Thetford Aqua Magic IV Toilet. I did this with the intent of replacing the blade and seal. However, as soon as I had it apart the blade had fallen off the actuator assembly. Now I don’t know how the blade sets back on as it is not a “only one way” fit.

I have the manual but it doesn’t really display the position of the blade clearly enough for me to see exactly how it fits on.

Any pictures/good diagrams/good illustrations/references or clear instructions would be appreciated.

  • Forgot to say the new spring was different than the old one, just wouldn't work. Tried the old spring but would not hold water. Went to a combo of old spring and slipped newer smaller spring inside. Had to give it a couple of haircuts to get it in(much too much spring life, also heavier gauge than old spring.) So it is in and flapper moves back then sticks. Must be closed by pulling peddle up with foot.I hope it wears in but I am ready for a new toilet. Forgot how fussy these can be.
  • I have the same problem. My ball valve went. So while replacing the ball valve I replaced the blade gasket. Long story short I have taken the toilet apart 5 times trying to get the gasket to seat right. Must have not put something back right. What direction is the flapper supposed to go? No directions with gasket. Please don't say you should have looked when you took it apart, it all fell out when I separated bowl. Thought I had it when the flapper moved nicely, seemed tight enough but won't hold water.
  • Blade should have a squared area on bottom where spring fits and then is sits on lower 'nub' of actuating arm
