Old - Biscuit got you started right. Sounds like you have the Thetford STYLE PLUS model. Behind that shroud are two disparate sized rubber bands holding it closed. Remove them, spread the opening and pull forward tilting the front up. The shroud will slip over the pedal even tho it looks impossible.
Then you have your basic toilet held down by two exposed bolts. Remove the nuts, disconnect the water supply (hand tightened nut in the back) and you can lift the toilet right out to the picnic table where you can work on it.
