Tips on Troubleshooting Transfer Switch

Hey,

I have an '06 Winnie with a Parallax 5070 transfer switch. I have good 120v on shore power, but nothing on generator. I do have 120v on the generator leads at the transfer switch, so I know the power is coming into the switch. Any suggestions on where to go from here?

Thanks
  • Thanks to all for your advice and suggestions. When I got the switch apart, one of the relay arms was out of alignment with the contact. It was just a matter of putting the arm back in the proper spot and then getting the whole assembly back together. No idea what could have caused it to move about 45 degrees, but at least I know where to look if the problem comes back.

    Again, that's to all.
  • First lightly tap switch with a rubber mallet while disconnected from shore power. switch may be stuck in shore position.
  • Looks as if that model is VERY easy to repair
PLEASE do not toss it in the trash

  • I don't have the docs with me, but I have seen transfer switches with a defeatable delay- with a small switch to elemental the delay. If you switch the delay off, it might work ( it has for me).
  • Oh yes. Shore power was disconnected when using the generator.

So time for a new switch. Since the 5070 is discontinued, does anyone know if any particular replacement would be a fairly simple wire for wire swap?
  • you do have shore power un plugged
while testing for generator power... yes

    the interlock will prevent transfer

if you are testing correctly, then the answer is the little control board in the transfer switch is bad
or the relay coil for that side of the circuit switch is burned out

either way.. its time for a new transfer switch
