I was lucky . . .:R . . . When my valve failed I was using the pump -- not connected to city water. I heard the pump continue to run so was able to prevent a major flood. I took the valve apart and clean it and added some grease. It has been working for 2 years of fulltiming now.
You problem may have been a one time problem with some "trash" keeping the valve open.
