Here in Florida, I am surrounded by many Live Oak trees.
They should probably be renamed 'constant autumn' trees since they lose their leaves all year round. Then 2 - 3 times a year they have a major leaf-loss. So, every month or so I am having to clean out my gutters and the scuppers on the trailer roof.
Same goes for my house.
Without the cap, lots of this debris would fill the pipe and clog it.
Not a good thing to think about a clogged sewer vent pipe.
