O.K. I didn't explain but I had my wife apply the brakes manually while I listened at the trailer. I understand the brakes aren't designed to stop the truck but I expected them to hold it at idle. I have a 2013 Ford with an integrated brake controller. With full power and manually operating the slide lever I can't lock the brakes up. I don't think driving at 20 miles per hour would make any difference but I could be wrong.
I didn't try the breakaway safety but I will when they return.
The trailer is in a campground with gravel roads. When I pick it up on Sunday to bring home I will apply the brakes manually and see if they will lockup on the gravel as I'm driving.
Thanks for the replies.
