so my trailer is rated for d tires but can e rated be used in place of d rated?

Anything above vehicle manufacturer recommended 65 PSI is optional. But, you waste your money for additional load capacity reserves if you don't use some of it.
Maximum inflation for Original Equipment trailer tires is a normal recommendation. It's not a requirement for higher load capacity replacements.
