The #18 or #20 wiring in a lot of vehicles is really too small to handle the current used by the parking and tail lights ...
When you add the clearance and tail lights on the trailer, it's a fire waiting to happen.
Standard vehicle lighting: 4 X 36 Watt lamps = 12 Amps.
Trailer lighting = ~8 to ~12 Amps.
Total = ~20 to ~24 Amps.
