The situation is improving a little bit. Both SMA and Solar Edge now have grid tie inverters with a 120 volt output that will supply up to 2kW (SMA) or 1.5kW (Solar Edge) when the sun is shining and the grid is down. This power can be used for battery charging or anything else. As far as electric cars go, I wish the promoters would provide honest total impact emissions data. As soon as I read "zero emissions" I know it's dishonest and quit reading.
