We have pretty much maxed out our hydro power many, MANY years ago. This plus, electric generation for falling water is NOT available in all parts of the US.
Lake Mead, which feed Hoover Dam, has been so low for so long it is only providing a fraction of the power it used to.
While solar and wind are good, they are not realistic in most parts of the US, at least as primary power sources.
