TT running lights on while camping

How can I keep my trailer exterior running lights on during the night?

I see at campgrounds where some folks illuminate their TT at night. What plug or modification do the use?

  • I for one go camping to enjoy the outdoors and the darkness. Patio lights and trailer running lights are not appropriate for all night use. Once I go in for the night I don't care if they have enough light to light up a ball diamond but sitting around and watching a campfire or just visiting, I don"t think so.

This is a neat pictorial showing the 7-way connector and the correct positions to use.

I imagine the Flasher will get someones attention.

Some will push a ATC automotive fuse in the slot

Each one of those automotive running lights around your trailer will draw around 1AMP of DC CURRENT meaning your battery will run down soon if camping off the power grid.

I saw one install where the wiring inside the 7-way connector junction box had a Radio Shack Slide Switch with indicator running off the terminals or wire nuts like mine has and mounted inside the trailer by the door.

This would be very handy to turn on your running lights when you wanting a rescue squad or police to find your trailer in the camp ground for emergencies...

First: I second the consider your neighbors comment.

Now.. Two optiosn.. on your 7 pin plug identify two of hte pins Battery (12 volt) and Tail lights.. These two are side by side.

By slightly bending the tabs on a common blade type fuse you can connect these two leads

or you can also do it with a turn signal flasher (use an HD model). if you want to really tick off your neighbors.

  • We do this, with the blade fuse. I also have the flasher - oh the horror! The flasher is used when it is time for the kids to return to the TT.
  • Find pins 3 & 4 on your seven way trailer connecting pin. Connect a wire between the two with a 10amp fuse connected in line.

I don't mean all night. Just dusk til 10 or so.
  • They are most likely using a blade type fuse to jumper the hot and running light connections at the trailer plug
  • Before you do this please consider how it will affect your neighbors
