- Bill_SatelliteExplorer IIGenerally, yes. If you are planning to run more stuff with the larger inverter you may need to add some battery capacity and hopefully, you are installing an inverter/charger to be able to recharge that larger battery bank.
Take a look at the installation instructions on line and compare it to your current installation. The run from the batteries to the inverter needs to be as short as possible and the cables may need to be replaced with thicker ones. - As long as the existing wire meets your needs and is properly fused you should be fine.
HF? HF is just a reseller of low end goods. When my Xantrex Prosine 1800 gave up too soon I moved on to GoPower. So far so good. - 2oldmanExplorer II

Harbor Freight? No, don't buy their cheap stuff.
also does anyone have any comments on the newer HF models? - agesilausExplorer IIII pretty much absolutely avoid anything electrical sold by HF after a number of failures and disappointments. Their non-electrical stuff can be alright just so long as the part has minimal moving parts. Open end wrench is OK for example and I've even found that their socket drive wrenches are OK. Nothing more complex tho.
They make an excellent metal dust pan for example...heh - MrWizardModeratorare you going to keep the same loads ?
no NEW LARGER loads , NO extra loads at the same time ?
use the new one, "EXACTLY" the same as the old ?
then yes - wa8yxmExplorer IIISome Xantrex inverters (not all) can be "Throttled" down from their max to 1000 watts. Why would you want to do this? Well an 1800 watt throttled will run cooler and likely longer "Mean time between failures"
But normally if upgrading from 1KW to 1.8 you would need to upgrade all wires both 12 volt and 110 volt.. Else you need to limit it to 1000 watts. I suggest you do the limit. No more than 1100 watts with existing wires. - RLS7201Explorer II

Can you give us a littler more on the throttling? I'd like to see if my Xantrex will throttle.
Thanks
Richard - FloridaNative49Explorer1000 is really not big enough for a lot of microwave/convection ovens. TVs fine.

Inverter Throttling, please clarify... - MrWizardModerator1000w might be too small depending on the MW (which was NOT the OP question)
but it is WAY more than what is needed for a TV
typical TV is less than 200w
lets stay on topicFloridaNative49 wrote:
