Can I upgrade my (dead) 1000 for a new 1800 with the existing wiring/batteries???Would be a simple switch out as the boxes are essentially the same.Also does anyone have any comments on the newer HF models?thanx!

Generally, yes. If you are planning to run more stuff with the larger inverter you may need to add some battery capacity and hopefully, you are installing an inverter/charger to be able to recharge that larger battery bank.Take a look at the installation instructions on line and compare it to your current installation. The run from the batteries to the inverter needs to be as short as possible and the cables may need to be replaced with thicker ones.

As long as the existing wire meets your needs and is properly fused you should be fine.HF? HF is just a reseller of low end goods. When my Xantrex Prosine 1800 gave up too soon I moved on to GoPower. So far so good.

I pretty much absolutely avoid anything electrical sold by HF after a number of failures and disappointments. Their non-electrical stuff can be alright just so long as the part has minimal moving parts. Open end wrench is OK for example and I've even found that their socket drive wrenches are OK. Nothing more complex tho.They make an excellent metal dust pan for example...heh

are you going to keep the same loads ?no NEW LARGER loads , NO extra loads at the same time ?use the new one, "EXACTLY" the same as the old ?then yes

I have several friends who purchased AMANA Radar Ranges in the SIXTIES and they still work. Some failures of button controls. But they are not landfill

My Vector Maxx 2000w MSW I got in 2009 still works, been used a fair amount over the years. Been a "spare" for a year now since we sold the truck camper and we recently got a new PSW 2000 for the MH. That Vector is heavy compared with some other 2000s I know about, even though it is of the new technology. (Mr Wiz likes "heavy" :) )

Another pound of landfill.

Why is my Trace 812SB still working after 24 years and the 4024 going strong after 26 years?

Paper plates and plastic spoons mentality is a loser.

Are there ANY thousand watt to 2000 watt inverters that stay working after 5 years? My Samlex 300 has worked flawlessly but for its size it is pricey.

I purchased Dickies pants and shirts in 2002 and while faded, they are perfectly good weekend and around the house clothes, no holes no missing buttons. Six dollar Wal-Mart garbage would have taken six shirts or pants to equal the lifespan.

But then I am a cheapskate...

you didn't say why you were replacing it

yes, you should upgrade the wiring at the very least
and probability increase the size of the battery bank

an 80% increase in power use ... needs bigger wiring

You can buy pre-made cables on Amazon for less than less than $50 for 1/0 and less than $55 for 2/0

Other wire sizes and lengths are available from the same supplier.

Depends on what size wiring is in place and what size wiring the new inverter requires.
