Using the gas for 1st time info

So I am going to test the stove and furnace in my 1970's camper.

I looked at the furnace and learned which way was off/pilot/on.
Stove is simple.

I assume that it all works as there was cook ware in the camper and the gas tank is a new (not sure if full) blue Rhino tank.

Any advice on what I should do before I check the gas stuff so I don't blow myself up.

I do know it all should be off before turning on the gas tank, but I have never lit a furnance like this and it's been long time since I lit a gas stove.

thanks in advance.

If it were me, I would check for leaks by filling a spray bottle with heavy dish washing soap and water and spray EVERY line and connection to check for leaks. With the tank valve open but everything else turned off.
I recently replaced the rubber hose from my tank to my line with a flexible metal hose. I like metal better than rubber.

Or as suggested above, have a professional check it out. Don't want to find any leaks the hard way.

Good advice. I agree on the metal flex hose.

After checking for leaks, turn the stove burner to the "light" position and give it a couple of seconds, then light with a long lighter. The burners use the most gas so that will flush out the main line fast. Then light the smaller flames.

  • Turn the gas on at the bottle after checking that all devise valves are off-ie, stove valves off, water heater, off, etc.
Turn the gas valve on the bottle off.
Wait 15 min and turn the gas back on. You should not hear any gas going through the regulator. Pass test 1.
Repeat but wait 2 hours. If regulator is still quiet and is not passing gas (sic):) chances are you have a tight system.
Get the RV down to a propane dealer and have a proper pressure test done at yhe earliest opportunity.
