Victron battery monitor help

I got it installed, but it won't read any amps. At all. I have double checked that it is wired correctly, and there are no connections to the negative terminal other than the shunt. I get voltage readings but no amps whether charging or discharging. It reads zero.

Is there anywhere to buy a new circuit board for the shunt? I can find nothing on their website.
  • Is the little red power wire to the shunt hooked to + ?

That's a good point. A 4 digit meter in the 2v range should see something. A 5 digit or analog meter would be ideal. A 3 digit likely won't register.

Another test would be a clamp ammeter on the cable feeding the shunt. It will at least confirm if current is flowing through or bypassing it some how.

    So some basic troubleshooting.

Put a good load on your battery bank, like a toaster, hair dryer, etc. and measure across the shunt with a regular volt meter. You should see a voltage, likely a few volts, or even less than a volt, but the reading should be constant and not jumping around like meters do sometimes when not connected to anything.

If you see a voltage, then the problem could be the PCB, or the connection between it and the monitor.

If you don't see any voltage, then there's a problem with how the shunt is wired into your system and current is bypassing the shunt.
  • The shunt has to be working correctly, since I have power to everything, so I think it has to be the circuit board that is mounted on the shunt.
  • I haven't bypassed the shunt. There are no connections to the negative terminal other than the shunt. All connections are on the load side of the shunt. It is wired correctly (I triple checked my wiring), it isn't working correctly though.
  • Sounds like you have by-passed the shunt by leaving the battery neg to frame wire in place instead of having it now go from the frame to the outer end of the shunt and wire the inner (closest to batt) end of the shunt to the neg battery post.
