It would work only if your bulb used little or no power. Once you put a big load on that circuit, the 6v+out voltage will be close to zero, and the resistor on the 12v+in will be dissipating about 1-1/2 watts. If you chose the correct series resistor to give you 6 volts at the bulb, the resistor would dissipate the same amount of heat as the bulb, so it's not very practical. Two bulbs in series would work, or maybe this is a good application for one of those ebay dc-dc converters that have been talked about on the forum recently.
