Water Heater Mixing Valve

I am getting hot water in the cold water side in my Camper, found the mixing valve Check Valve had small white rocks in it. Clean Tank with Vinegar and Mixing Valve and reinstalled, I by passed the hot water heater and I turned back on the water supply. water is running back into the Tank. ??????????? (1) does this mean I have to replace the Mixing valve ? (2)or can I do away with the Mixing valve altogether ? (3) would it hurt anything. confused......??????????

The two of you are talking about two different parts. The mixing valve is indeed $150 and a standard check valve is $7. You will have minimal luck fixing the mixing valve but some people do. I suggest you get a new one and get it replaced. Please state the model number of your water heater so we can be sure you have a mixing valve.

    Exactly^^^^^^^^^^

Mixing valve used on Atwood XT Models. (GE9-EXT or GE16-EXT)
Installed right on hot out with a cold water connection. Very Hot out (160*F) mixes with the cold for a hot out to rv at 130*F.

Check valve is just a cheap plastic plunger/spring/O-ring assembly in hot out to stop backflow into tank when tank is bypassed.
  • Need some clarity to understand.

Are you talking about both a faucet mixing valve and a water heater check valve??

    Or maybe the bypass valve.

    Add pictures.

  • The mixing valve you talk about is actually a check valve on the outlet of the hot water tank. I had one go faulty and stick open like yours. When I tried to winterize, anti-freeze went backwards through the stuck open check valve and made a hell of a mess. It is very cheap to fix, get a new one.
