New burner works as reported, but now getting black soot on the side of the RV above the exhaust.
I know this can mean not enough air, so should I slide the air shutter open a little more, or is it likely soot in the big tube under the heater where the flame goes way in and around a corner? Perhaps getting cleaned out now with the new burner on the job?
I have the air openings small for best looking flame, but it could go more open before the burner noise starts in.
BTW on the no-noise, I find this a problem where you can't hear it stop when the water gets hot and it shuts off. Is there a clever way to know the water is now hot other than go outside and check if the burner is still lit, or run the tap to spot check heating progress?
Needs something with a light that goes out or whatever.
