Water Pump Doesn't Work - When City Water is Disconnected

Whenever I disconnect the city water when we're getting ready to leave, the water pump doesn't work right away. The light comes on the switch but It doesn't even turn on. Then after driving and we stop for a break, it starts to work again. Sometimes, not always, the pump will continue to run and not build pressure. I have a water tank fill valve and make sure it is in the proper position. This has happened intermittently. Could this be a problem with air in the line or the prime? I've never had this issue with other RVs. Would a new water pump fix this problem?

  • I agree as sometimes I do have just enough pressure after disconnecting and with the water pump turned off. This last time I didn't have any pressure in the line, nor would the pump work. On the other hand, sometimes the pump will continue running and not stop. But it is intermittent which is why I wonder if it is the pump that has a problem?
  • The water pump should be triggered by low pressure. When you disconnect from city water the internal water lines will still be at the pressure from the city water line pressure. You can verify this by turning off the water pump and disconnecting from city water and turning on a faucet - water will flow for a bit until the pressure is relieved. In fact even with my water pump if turn it on until it pressurizes the system there is enough pressure in the line for a few toilet flushes at night without turning on the pump.
