Yeah, it says something like that in the instructions. By 'hit it' do you mean pour in right in with the top screwed off? Do you dilute it first? How much do you use, about?
However, the instructions do say to drain if for 'long term' storage. I just don't know how long that means.
Have you confirmed that it still softens for the expected period? No loss of duration? It would be hard for me to tell, probably for you too, but I just wondered if you've ever tried to test it somehow.
