Watts H560 water pressure regulator malfunction

I have had my Watts H560 with gauge for less than a year. First trip out this week, when I hooked up my hose the gauge needle pegged all the way over to the little stop, showing over 90 psi when it was set at 50 psi. I reduced the flow of water at the faucet and it still went all the way over as far as it would go. Appears that the gauge has malfunctioned. I left the regulator in the RV all winter, maybe it had some moisture in it and froze.
Anyone had problems with this regulator? I know may people use them. I hate to have to spend over $50.00 on a, so called, quality regulator if it isn't going to last over one season.

I went through 3 gauges before I finally just plugged the hole in the regulator. I have a separate gauge with a hose connector that lives in the house where it won't freeze and break. The regulator has never varied a bit, but the gauges got ruined every winter.

Water stayed in the bourdon tube and froze, ruining it.
  • I bet the problem is the gauge......not the regulator.
Does the gauge register '0' when not connected?

The gauge is NOT an high quality type gauge. Not oil filled for damping just a straight bourdon tube pressure gauge. It has been whacked out of calibration.

They are throw aways (you can remove front cover, then remove the two screws in back and pull gauge out of frame to access the backside and bend bourdon tube to sorta re-calibrate) but it's easier to just replace gauge.

    Most any hardware store.
  • I've had that happen to two N55B's. In both cases it was after a subfreezing night. Also in both cases I was able to save it with a rebuild kit from The RV Water Filter Store. I see they have one for the H560 too.
  • My guess is the gauge had some water still in it and it froze. I would replace the gauge and see what happens. It would be cheaper than the H560.

Don't ask me how I know this.
  • We have not had any problem with out Watts water regulator and it is probably 10 years old. It stays in our trailer during the winter off season. I do make sure it has all of the water out of it after each use by disconnecting it from the hose and holding it in both vertical positions. The gage is starting to get a little rusty but it still functions. I may just order a new gage.

  • Back the pressure adjustment knob out until it is free turning, on the bottom of the valve body is a small nut, unscrew this nut and there will be a small spring and a poppet, you probably got some debris between the poppet and the valve body... T-10
