Weekend Warrior 5th wheel A/C issues

Hi,

I have a 2008 with dual a/c's. Not to long ago I had an issue(s) and wanted to run it by you guys that might have an idea. I ran both a/c units for a total of 6 hours. The a/c units cycled as normal during the day. The selected temp was ~70-72* and for the most part the units did fine. The bedroom a/c started to act up first by blowing warm air (with the main a/c following suit shortly after) so I cleaned the intake filter which seemed to do the trick (I think). The main living area a/c started acting up next. The air coming from the vent was warm.

I disassembled the main living area a/c and found the condenser fan motor leaking oil from the shaft so I bought a new one that I will be installing soon. Only thing I can assume is the motor is starting to seize and not cooling the condenser.....but something tells me that is not the issue, but I figured since the a/c units are not serviceable with my home gauges I should try something obvious first.

As far as I can report the bedroom a/c is working correctly, but it is hard to tell since we normally only do winter camping. I will be headed to AZ in June and the last thing I need is the a/c's to take a cr*p on me and be miserable.

Is there anything you guys can recommend I look into/change before I bite the bullet and take it to an RV place where I am certain they will bend me over on repairs.

Thanks a bunch

joe
  • When was the last time you cleaned the evap cooler and condenser cooler?

The evap cooler chills the air and the condenser cooler chills the coolant.......if dirty everything just keeps getting warmer and warmer

I have taken both covers off and gone through both systems pretty good. Took a hose up there and brush and carefully cleaned the condenser fins and surrounding areas, cleaned all the cr*p out of there and sanitized it pretty well.....but honestly that is where I stopped.

How in depth is the cleaning you speak of?

    Thank you for the help

  • Look at the run cap or caps and see if it's puffed out were the wires hook up at if it is replace it. If you have a meter check the cap but discharge it first.

I am sorry but I have no idea what you are talking about....what wires and what caps?

    thanks

  • Did you remove the metal sealed cover over the evap cooler and cleaned it?

For your two A/Cs that would be totl of 4 coolers/coils....2 condenser (ones you see with shroud off----rear) and 2 evap (ones under metal seal covers---front)
