WFCO WF-9875 Replacement

I am looking at a Progressive Dynamics Series 9200 replacement for my now defunct WF-9875 converter but PD does not have a 75A unit. Their 80A unit requires a 20A AC source but my current converter circuit in the basement has a 15A breaker so I'm ruling out the PD 80A unit. This leaves me with the PD9270 as a replacement unit. Would like input as to whether or not the PD9270 is adequate to replace the WF-9875.

I think you would be okay either way.

But, where did you get the 20A info? Because I see a draw of 1300W on the input, which would only be 11.x amps. No where near needing a 20A breaker.

Hmmm, I see. I think that converter comes with a power cord and plug, so they may equip it with a 20A male plug. That would be the type with one blade perpendicular to the other. I don't know why they would do that for a 1300W load.

I would be tempted to buy that, and simply replace the plug. But first I would confirm that the max load is really 1300w, and if it is, no way does it need a 20A source. If you want the simple path, just go with the 70A version. I don't think you will see any problem with performance. It will still be better than what you are replacing.

  • We replaced the WF9875 in our new toy hauler with a PD9260 that I removed from our last toy hauler before we sold it. Works great. The PD9260 with its 14.4v bulk charge mode easily out-performs the WF9875 when charging. I could never get the WF9875 to go into 14.4v bulk-mode.

IMO, unless you have unusually high-amperage 12 volt demands (very large winch or battery bank), or need or want the absolute fastest possible 14v bulk-mode charge rate, a PD9270 (or PD9260) will work just fine (vs. a PD9280).
