It is actually greed and the the ease at which lawyers can win ridiculous lawsuits that have caused this proliferation of "saving" everyone from themselves.
Some people REALLY are dumb and use/abuse things in the wrong way and get hurt. Unfortunately they do not just chalk it up to THEM being dumb, they and a lawyer demand that the company was at fault.....jury sees big heartless company VS poor little imbecile and awards them a huge settlement.....then every company needs to protect themselves from the consumer and adds 85 labels to every product.
The litigation society has to be changed before companies can ever hope to be rid of over reaching regulations.
