Ouch. You want to protect those expensive filters with coarser, cheapo pre-filters. A 5 micron polyester, maybe followed by a 1 micron, should stop the little buggers. That's what I do right at the campground faucet. Or the diatomaceous earth suggestion (just not sure how you could do that in an RV set up).
