Im not sure that is nor normal but I do have some math to discuss
A G-29 is 105 amp hours... Being a Marine/Deep cycle in all likely hood he shoudl not use more than around 25-30 of those before re-charging. That is 210 amp hours total.
A GC-2 (you need two of them in series) is 230 amp hours, since they are in series its still 230 amp hours (The voltage doubles to 12 though) these are TRUE deep cycle so you can take 'em down to half full before serious damage happens.
Whats more.. they may well be cheaper, epically if he shops Sam's Club.
The extra 20 amp hours will not make MUCH difference, but the low-charge survalibility of the True DEEP CYCLE battery might.
Best option: Add a pair of GC-2 to his existing pair of G-29's.
