1. Is the voltmeter proven accurate?
2. Is the hydrometer proven accurate?
When and if the battery reaches 16.0 volts stop the charge. Wait three hours. Recheck the specific gravity. If the gravity of all cells reads .05 points less than the others, go to a REAL battery shop and have the battery load tested under CORRECT and approved load test methods. You will have to pay for this because if the battery load tests bad you will have to ask the battery shop for a work order specifying a genuine test was performed and the battery failed to meet acceptable standard to be called good AND that the battery has been correctly charged.
Wal-Mart is about as adept at testing lead acid batteries as I am determining women's shoe sizes or picking the correct earbuds for a pink IPOD.
