If a hydrometer indicates any other proven good battery is in the green and the batter in question has one or more cells that are a 1/16" inch lower than that on the bobber stem of the hydrometer, take the battery in and have it load tested at a battery shop that can test to the following specs:
GROUP 24: Apply 250 amperes for 15 seconds and note voltage
GROUP 27 275
GROUP 29,30,31 325
If the voltage falls lower than 9.6 volts even by a tenth of a volt the battery fails the BCI load test and is eligible for warranty. This test must be performed on an equalized battery that has rested for six hours before testing.
Adjustable carbon pile load testers are not the easiest thing to stumble across. It requires THINKING by the technician to use one properly. The tech needs to know how to tell time, and read decimal increments on a manual meter.
