OP, can you post some photos of the interior of the EMS.
I have to wonder if there was a bad connection(s) (despite thinking it was tight enough) or there was a surge from the poco.
*If* the OP's connections were not done properly I could see the manufacturer denying a claim, but without having the unit in hand, how would they know. The contactor itself could have been faulty too.
myredracer...
Like I stated in a previous post, all connections were tight when I removed it. I installed this EMS unit in our previous RV in 2009. It was in there for 4 years (no problems), then I transferred it to our current RV in 2014. So it's been preforming it job the last 3 years, and a total of 7 years. So I surmise my connects were done right. Something happened but probably will never know cuz Progressive Ind. doesn't care.
Here's a pic of the inside of the unit. As shown, the set screw on the upper left terminal and inside of the end part of the box is scorched from the insulation on the wires melting from the heat.
Decisions...Decisions....do I go with another P. I. EMS HW30C or a Surge Guard 30 amp HW.
Compare the first photo and the last and you will see the burn mark on the cover that is in the same spot as the brunt thermal, when you have a bad connection and it gets hot it will fuse the set screw to the connector so you think it's tight but it wasn't. The heat also transfers to the contracts causing them to overheat and fail. I was in the electrical and commercial refigeration business for years and worked on all sorts of contactors and I've seen this many times, basically you had a bad connection. A new contactor will repair the unit so that's the way I would fix it.

I don't have the expertise to confirm Denny's claim. However my initial interpretation of the letter is that Progressive is stating this failure is caused by a loose connection and is not covered by warranty. We have seen this before and there is no need to send the unit in.
We cannot afford to warranty loose connections, especially if unit was not installed by a licensed or qualified dealer or electrician.
If the OP was a qualified professional maybe he would have been given the benefit of the doubt.
However the diagnosis was a loose connection and the OP is not a professional.Claim denied.Case closed
