There is no way in hell I would ever enclose a POWER control circuit inside a plastic case, and then jeopardize the air inside a habitable air space or risk ignition of adjoining structural material.
I have noticed that our EMS does run warm. Warmer than I'd like and almost smells overheated if I get my nose near it (it's under one of the dinette seats but that does get good air flow). Not the best of designs having heat producing components inside a sealed plastic enclosure. Would probably benefit from some added ventilation but would undoubtedly void the warranty. Maybe the cover could be cracked open with some longer screws. Have a couple of small vents for electronic equip. that'd be perfect. Might try my IR gun on it.
A quick internet search shows a 30 amp contactor has a coil burden of about 7 watts which is a fair bit in a small sealed enclosure, plus maybe also some heat generated by the other components. PI doesn't publish the losses of their EMS units but could be tested with a clamp-on ammeter.
And probably only a couple of million sold and in use without one mention anywhere of a fire. Only in an internet RV forum could fear mongering take off rampant over a great and proven product. But hey, spin away.
