Without using a hydrometer to verify where you are at, all the numbers on all the gauges in the world are useless. When should a charger drop to float?
When lag and over run chemical idiosyncrasies are factored out, the batteries approach 100% state of charge, then the charging mechanism should default to stasis float. Temperature compensation of the battery is vital in establishing this. (end quote)
i'm disappointed with both the trimetric and my xantrex inverter in that neither shows voltage to the second decimal place. the inverter at least rounds up somewhere around the halfway mark, whereas the trimetric rounds up as soon as the reading goes over by 0.01 volts. so 12.71 volts reads as 12.8. good thing i installed it for reading amps, not volts. i use my volt meter for that; always have.
here's a question:
is it safe to use the battery compartment temp as battery temp when compensating for temp? (i used 63F when doing my SG readings this morning seeing as it was 63 out and the compartment is vented directly to the outdoors by a large grill.
