- Maine-stayExplorerI found a Nikki carb float that was identical but when I went to pick it up at the local shop it was smaller. Id like to find an adjustable metal one that would work. I'm not giving up yet.
- lane_hogExplorer IILook for a Nikki carb float -- that's who made the carb on my Onan 4K, and the match for mine is available for around $15 from several suppliers.
- down_homeExplorer IIThe plastic ones, over time deteoriate, especially if alcohol, is in the fuel.
Perhaps floats of the last few years are better. Onan has been around a while perhaps one of their dealers has a kit with brass float. Alcohol will attack it too but less than old plastics.
Onan doesn't make it's carbs. It buys from a supplier, I would think. Perhaps you can find a number on it and find a float or kit with brass float,on the Internet.
Don't lose sleep trying to find one though. - Maine-stayExplorerIs Arctic Silver fuel resistant? I've never heard of it.
- MEXICOWANDERERExplorerI am using Arctic Silver by the teaspoonfull. A swatch half the size of a postage stamp weighs .02 grams. Almost zero displacement on an object like a float.
- Maine-stayExplorerI plan to keep playing with the bad float, just couldn't delay getting mine running again. Best case is that I locate a replacement float and thus ending up with a good spare. Just unhappy that I am forced to spend over 200 dollars for a 10 dollar fix.
- j-dExplorer IIBe sure to keep the whole old carb leaky float and all. If something goes wrong with the new carb, you can use that float to repair an otherwise running one. So drain it well and blow all the passages out. If you ever come across a float, you can have a Hot Spare. Or sell it as-is to somebody with a bad carb/good float.
I don't like throwing dollars at a problem like with a new carb, whole-new-whatever, when the issue's minor or unclear. Still, I can't blame you a bit for wanting to get your coach back to full functionality. We didn't use our genset much for a couple years futzing with carb problems. We've now had a good carb on it for a couple years and the convenience is wonderful. Need to develop the habit of using it more. When it's 90* and 90%, it's nice to run the coach A/C to finish packing, while hooking up the toad, setting up on campground, using dump station, stopping at park office... Having that capability, even to just microwave something... Maybe not Priceless, but sure NICE. - Maine-stayExplorerAt this point the weight isn't an issue. The sealer didn't hold and the float filled with fuel.

I would be concerned that the slight added WEIGHT of any sealer/bonding agent would cause the float to not operate correctly. Doug- MEXICOWANDERERExplorerYou gave up after a single attempt at a brand of sealer?
